Panduit’s Unified Physical InfrastructureSM (UPI) Approach Enables IBM to Optimize its Portable Modular Data Center Solution

TINLEY PARK, IL (December 3, 2009) – Panduit Corp., a global leader in Unified Physical InfrastructureSM (UPI) based solutions, is partnering with IBM to implement Portable Modular Data Center (PMDC) designs that minimize energy use and provide cost-effective and flexible solutions to meet data center capacity. With this collaboration, Panduit is helping customers deploy sustainable technology infrastructures that meet evolving business requirements and manage costs across the data center life cycle.

Panduit UPI-based solutions leverage an optimized physical infrastructure as the foundation to enable convergence across communication, computing, control, power and security systems. These end-to-end solutions drive operational and financial advantages across the enterprise, allowing businesses to improve reliability, reduce costs, heighten agility and support sustainability initiatives.

“We look forward to partnering with IBM to help companies optimize power, cooling, and space within the data center environment,” said Vineeth Ram, Panduit VP of Global Strategic Marketing. “Panduit provides an optimized physical infrastructure in support of IBM’s family of data center solutions such as PMDC.”

“IBM’s PMDC is the most complete, robust and highest quality containerized data center available on the market today,” said Steve Sams, IBM VP, Global Site and Facilities Services. “Harnessing the power of data center virtualization and working with Panduit to deliver innovative products has reaped large savings for our clients, most notably reduction in power and cooling costs.

Panduit’s complete line of High Speed Data Transport (HSDT) solutions supports the network infrastructure over the data center life cycle. Panduit® QuickNet™ pre-terminated 10Gb/s solutions are an ideal fit for the unique infrastructure requirements of containerized solutions such as IBM’s PMDC, where highly reliable and scalable cabling infrastructure must support high density network applications in challenging environments. High-density QuickNet solutions are 100% factory terminated and tested and provide up to 96 fiber and 48 copper connections in a single rack space, maximizing the use of valuable PMDC real estate while ensuring the highest level of performance. The quick plug-in connections of cassette-based QuickNet assemblies allow rapid, error-free installation up to 75% faster than traditional termination methods for considerable time and cost savings.

“Panduit’s UPI approach maps the physical infrastructure to the logical network, enabling customers to conserve valuable data center real estate while managing extreme heat loads and optimizing power and cooling efficiencies,” said Jack Tison, Panduit VP of Technology. “Working on the IBM PMDC initiative allows us to apply our high speed data transport, integrated cabinet systems, software, and harsh environment expertise to optimize the IBM platform and promote scalable, sustainable data center design practices for these critical applications.

Panduit has established long-term collaborative relationships with global industry leaders such as IBM to develop and integrate innovative, holistic solutions for our customers. We continually invest in relationships and resources for solving our customers’ greatest business challenges. Customers and partners can learn more about Panduit’s data center solutions at
