Fresh Insight

We look at things differently: from the bottom up. Often overlooked and underappreciated, the physical infrastructure has become more critical as networks converge, higher-powered computing equipment is developed, and business needs increase the demand for data…NOW!

For over 55 years, Panduit has focused on the physical infrastructure— for data centers, industrial automation, and enterprise networks. We have developed solutions that allow networks to send data faster and more reliably; reduce thermal management costs; and improve the overall performance of the network.

We call this section Fresh Insight, because we want to share this unique perspective by allowing readers to Research, Learn, and Collaborate.  We believe these actions empower our clients to optimize their physical infrastructure to transform the way they do business.

Our door is always open. We invite you to share your questions, thoughts, and comments with us to improve Fresh Insight or, if you would like to suggest physical infrastructure topics for discussion, contact us at AdvisoryServices@panduit.com.

Breath of Fresh Air:
How ASHRAE's 2011 Thermal Guidelines Can Help You Increase Efficiency and Save Money

It seems strange that a data center would have trouble with overheating when around the globe many countries have cold air a majority of the year.

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) has been doing plenty of work to enable the industry to take advantage of free-cooling with outdoor air. For example, a recent ASHRAE white paper demonstrates how in the Chicago area, the dry bulb temperatures are below 20°C (68°F) for roughly 5,000 to 6,000 hours per year. That’s nearly two-thirds of the year where the temperature would permit some form of free cooling. Read more….
