building a smarter, unified business foundation

Enable effective decision making.

Data center and IT leaders are being challenged on many fronts from capacity planning, to remote management to end-to-end service level agreements. Visibility into key operational metrics — power, space, connectivity, and asset tracking — is critical to meeting these demands and making effective business decisions.

The Panduit Physical Infrastructure Manager™ (PIM™) software platform is the Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) component of our comprehensive Data Center solution. Designed to provide data center and IT professionals with real-time information about connectivity, power usage, space, and thermal and environmental conditions, the PIM™ software platform helps ensure that your physical infrastructure supports mission-critical applications and allows for the optimization of space, power, and cooling resources.

The PIM™ Software Platform offers visibility into:

Built-in flexibility to grow with your needs.

Our modular approach to DCIM allows you to customize a solution for your current and future needs. Process-driven integration with your network management and service desk platforms create a streamlined interface to support management of IT assets with related attributes and physical infrastructure components.

Base Module

The Base Module is the building block of the PIM™ software platform. Included with this module are system administration, location management, event management, networking discovery, reporting, rack-level and room-level elevation views. It documents patch field configuration changes and asset movements while automatically updating database information. This information, as well as detailed reports on power usage, environmental conditions and use of space, allows IT managers to automate standard and customized reports that show compliance with corporate and industry regulations. In addition, the base module can be used to document energy conservation and other sustainable IT initiatives.

Asset Module

The Asset Module helps manage the remote patch field and track assets at remote locations anywhere in the world. It lets you see vital network information across the entire extended enterprise from a single Web-accessible PIM™ server.

In addition, the PIM™ Asset Module:
  • Eliminates spreadsheets and manual asset tracking processes
  • Minimizes your workload because it automates the on-and off network tracking of active devices over time
  • Maintains a historical record of asset moves
  • Allows you to logically group assets in addition to identifying them in the physical topology
  • Enables you to reclaim, repurpose and redeploy assets more effectively based on analytics and reporting
  • Allows addition of supplemental devices
  • Offers customizable asset definitions

Connect Module

The Connect Module captures and records changes in network connectivity and displays them graphically in near-real time. Our PanView iQ™ (PViQ™) system hardware solution, used in conjunction with this module, extends intelligence to patch panels and beyond, as well as enables guided MACs and tracing to all network links, such as switches, servers and other network equipment. This module increases productivity through active cable tracing and monitors physical connections, which avoids mistakes in the patch field and automatically stores a historical record.

In addition, the PIM™ Connect Module:
  • Eliminates serial task implementation and re-provisioning
  • Secures violation visibility
  • Streamlines workflow

Power Module

The Power Module monitors and catalogs performance, energy consumption and environmental conditions within a data center and across the extended enterprise. It also provides power and environmental-specific reports associated with the management of intelligence-enabled PanView iQ™ (PViQ™) Power Outlet Units (POUs) with environmental sensors, as well as select third-party POUs.

In addition, the PIM™ Power Module:
  • Measures power and monitors thresholds of temperature and humidity levels
  • Offers central management of multiple POUs
  • Automates documentation of power use and environmental data
  • Provides trending analysis and a look into multiple environmental inputs

Dashboards and Reporting Module

The PIM™ Dashboards and Reports Module provides advanced visibility into operational metrics, which helps you manage and report on data center power, space, connectivity and assets. You get instant access to the data you need and can analyze it for better decision-making. It lets you filter data in real-time to refine or isolate the data set as needed.

In addition, the PIM™ Dashboard and Reporting Module:
  • Lets you define custom reports and dashboards with a variety of data visualization tools, such as gauges, charts and dials
  • Provides instant snapshots of data center metrics with dashboard-style presentation
  • Creates multiple representations of power, space, connectivity, and asset tracking data
  • Uses pre-defined dashboards and reports to provide an at-a-glance perspective of an operational scenario

Integration Module

Panduit adds value to existing network management software systems, including HP® OpenView or IBM® Tivoli by sharing physical layer information with those third-party systems. Off-the-shelf integrations exist with IBM® Tivoli Omnibus, Microsoft® SCOM and BMC Remedy Change Management — and accelerate the deployment of these integrations.

Integration of PIM™ Software into IBM® Tivoli®
As part of the Physical Infrastructure Manager™ (PIM™) Software Platform, the IBM® Tivoli® Connector contains components necessary to integrate with IBM® Tivoli® Netcool OMNIBus v7.3. This integration enables event enrichment and correlation for PanView iQ™ (PViQ™) intelligence-enabled hardware and optional instructions on how to integrate with the IBM® Maximo® Incident Management System. Upon installation of the integration components, the user is presented with a single, holistic point of view in which to monitor the physical infrastructure components of a data center environment. Additionally, this integration provides a foundation upon which a user can develop further customizations.

This integration enables collection, correlation and enrichment of PViQ™ hardware and PIM™ Software events, displayed through the IBM® Tivoli® GUI. Users of IBM® Tivoli® NetCool OMNIbus are called to monitor the data center environment, simplifying root cause analysis and decreasing mean time to repair while increasing mean time between failures.

Integration of PIM™ Software into Microsoft® System Center Operation Manager
As part of the Physical Infrastructure Manager™ (PIM™) Software Platform, the PIM™ Microsoft® SCOM Management Pack contains components necessary to integrate with Microsoft® System Center Operation Manager (SCOM). This integration enables event enrichment and correlation for PanView iQ™ (PViQ™) intelligence-enabled hardware and provides the user of Microsoft® SCOM with a single, holistic point of view in which to monitor the physical infrastructure components of a data center environment. This integration also provides a foundation upon which a user can develop additional customizations for functionality, such as trouble ticketing and custom reporting.

This integration enables collection, correlation and enrichment of PViQ™ hardware and PIM™ Software events, displayed through the Microsoft® SCOM GUI. It also allows users of Microsoft SCOM® to monitor the data center environment, simplifying root cause analysis and decreasing mean time to repair while increasing mean time between failures.

Integration of PIM™ Software into BMC Remedy and Ayanova
These integrations enable scheduling, authorizing, reviewing and executing physical layer management tasks directly from the BMC Remedy and Ayanova platforms. Users leverage the PIM™ Task Manager to streamline the process for completing change requests, thus incorporating valuable physical layer and asset information for more effective change management.
