A Solid Foundation for Healthcare Data Center Modernization
A healthcare organization partnered with Panduit to successfully migrate from an on-premises data center to a multi-tenant data center (MTDC) environment. Facing growth demands and rising infrastructure costs, the organization sought a solution that would improve scalability without significant capital investment. Panduit delivered a complete infrastructure approach that combined intelligent power, high-performance connectivity, and deployment expertise. The result was a faster migration, improved operational flexibility, and a foundation for future growth.
Challenges
- Existing on-premises data center could not effectively support projected organizational growth.
- Building a new data center required significant capital expenditure and deployment time.
- Aggressive migration timelines created procurement and implementation concerns.
- Operations teams required a scalable infrastructure capable of supporting future technology demands.
Solution
- Implemented G5 iPDU and environmental monitoring solutions for power visibility and operational reliability.
- Deployed HD Flex™ Fiber Cabling and QuickNet™ Copper Cabling Systems for high-performance connectivity.
- Utilized Panduit cabinets and cable routing infrastructure to optimize data center design.
- Leveraged Panduit deployment expertise and supply chain support to accelerate migration activities.
Outcome
- Successfully migrated operations to a multi-tenant data center environment.
- Avoided significant up-front capital expenditures associated with building a new data center.
- Improved scalability and operational flexibility for future growth initiatives.
- Achieved rapid deployment through access to integrated infrastructure solutions and dedicated supply chain support.
Challenges
For more than 90 years, this healthcare organization focused on delivering exceptional care while continuously expanding services and capabilities. As growth accelerated, the organization determined that its existing on-premises data center could no longer scale efficiently to support future operational requirements.
Leadership evaluated the options of building a new facility or migrating to a multi-tenant data center. While land was available for construction, developing a new data center represented a significant capital investment and would require substantial time and resources. The organization sought a more flexible solution that would support long-term growth while preserving capital.
Working with Flexential as an existing disaster recovery provider, the organization identified a multi-tenant data center strategy as the preferred path forward. The challenge then became designing and deploying a reliable infrastructure solution capable of supporting critical healthcare operations while meeting aggressive implementation schedules.
The Panduit Strategy and Solution:
Panduit collaborated closely with the customer to evaluate infrastructure requirements and demonstrate modern data center technologies. Through consultations and solution reviews, Panduit identified opportunities to improve visibility, power management, connectivity, and scalability.
The solution included G5 iPDUs and environmental monitoring capabilities to provide enhanced visibility into power and environmental conditions. For connectivity, Panduit recommended HD Flex™ Fiber Cabling Systems and QuickNet™ Copper Cabling Systems to support current and future application requirements. Cabinets and Cable Tray Routing Systems were also incorporated to maximize thermal performance, cable management, and operational efficiency.
This integrated approach provided the customer with a complete infrastructure foundation aligned to multi-tenant data center best practices.
The Implementation
During the planning process, the healthcare organization designed a deployment consisting of six cabinet rows with dual PDUs in each cabinet configuration. The migration schedule required rapid procurement and delivery of infrastructure components, creating concerns around timing and availability.
Panduit addressed these concerns through dedicated supply chain support and proactive coordination. By leveraging proven deployment practices and product availability, Panduit helped ensure the required infrastructure was delivered on schedule, allowing implementation activities to proceed without significant delays.
The combination of expert guidance, supply chain responsiveness, and integrated infrastructure solutions enabled the organization to confidently execute its migration strategy.
The Outcome
The migration to a multi-tenant data center provided immediate business and operational benefits. The healthcare organization gained the ability to support future growth without the significant costs associated with building a new facility. The new environment also delivered increased flexibility, scalability, and access to broader connectivity options.
Panduit's infrastructure solutions helped create a resilient foundation that supports business continuity while improving visibility and management of critical systems. By partnering with Panduit, the organization gained confidence that its infrastructure could evolve alongside changing healthcare technology requirements and future expansion initiatives.
