Secure, Standardized Network Infrastructure Supports Manufacturing Continuity

Mondelez France needed a more secure, reliable OT network across nine production plants. Panduit and its ecosystem partners deployed a CPwE-based architecture with fiber, copper, power, identification, and safety solutions. The standardized infrastructure improved network reliability, supported production continuity, and created a scalable model for future projects.

Challenges

  • Growing cybersecurity risks across production facilities threatened operational continuity.
  • Network downtime could result in significant production losses and supply chain disruption.
  • Nine manufacturing sites required deployment within a six-month timeframe.
  • Infrastructure needed to comply with internal IT/OT standards while supporting future scalability.

Solution

  • Implemented a Converged Plantwide Ethernet (CPwE) architecture across production sites.
  • Deployed pre-configured Industrial Distribution Frames and Universal Network Zone Systems.
  • Installed OS2 singlemode fiber and Category 6A copper cabling infrastructure.
  • Added network security, power redundancy, identification, and safety solutions.

Outcome

  • Standardized network connectivity across all production facilities.
  • Improved network availability, reliability, and security.
  • Reduced installation time through pre-engineered infrastructure components.
  • Established a scalable OT architecture that became a model for future deployments.

Challenges

Mondelez France operates multiple production facilities that support one of the country’s leading biscuit businesses. To continue advancing its manufacturing operations, Mondelez France needed to strengthen the security, availability, and reliability of its operational technology network infrastructure. Leadership recognized that increasing cyber threats, connectivity failures, and potential production downtime could create significant operational and financial risk.

The company also required a standardized infrastructure that complied with internal IT/OT architectural standards and could support future Industry 4.0 initiatives. Deployments across nine production sites had to be completed quickly while minimizing disruption to production and supply chain operations.

Solution

Panduit collaborated with Mondelez France, supported by ecosystem partners including Rockwell Automation, Cisco, and Société Nouvelle AES DANA, to develop and implement a Converged Plantwide Ethernet (CPwE) architecture. The solution included pre-configured Industrial Distribution Frames, Universal Network Zone Systems, micro data center infrastructure, OS2 singlemode fiber cabling, Category 6A copper cabling, Power Distribution Units (PDU), and industrial network security solutions.

The architecture was designed to deliver power and data redundancy while supporting standardized IT and OT network practices across manufacturing environments. Panduit identification, safety, and lock-in/block-out solutions also supported equipment protection, durable labeling, and controlled access to critical connection points.

Implementation

The deployment was executed across nine French production facilities. Panduit ecosystem partners installed and configured a new fiber optic backbone according to industry standards and recommended best practices. The solution utilized pre-engineered Industrial Distribution Frames to accelerate deployment and support network performance.

Universal Network Zone Systems provided environmental protection, power redundancy, and secure network segmentation. Additional safety, identification, and lock-in/block-out solutions were implemented to help protect critical infrastructure and support compliance requirements within industrial production environments.

Outcome

The completed infrastructure upgrade delivered a standardized and scalable OT network architecture across production sites. Mondelez France gained improved network reliability, security, and operational consistency while reducing deployment complexity and installation time.

The CPwE-based architecture established a repeatable blueprint for future projects and supported the organization’s long-term digital manufacturing strategy. The successful implementation also strengthened collaboration between Mondelez France and Panduit’s ecosystem partners, helping create robust technical standards that can support future growth initiatives.

“The support of this formidable project (9 biscuit sites in France in 6 months) contributed to prepare the future with confidence every step of the way, from beginning to execution.”
