Building a Flexible Smart Building Infrastructure for Long-Term Growth

When Intesa Sanpaolo established its operations within Milan's landmark Torre Gioia 22, the organization required a scalable and resilient network infrastructure capable of supporting building automation, workplace technology, security systems, and thousands of connected devices. Working alongside STIM Tech Group, Panduit delivered a comprehensive structured cabling and connectivity solution that enables operational efficiency, supports sustainability goals, and provides the flexibility required for future expansion and emerging applications.

Challenges

  • Supporting automation requirements across a 30-story smart building.
  • Providing connectivity for cameras, PoE-powered wireless access points, collaboration technologies, and building systems.
  • Creating a flexible infrastructure capable of adapting to future growth and technology demands.
  • Supporting multiple office spaces, meeting rooms, telecommunications rooms, and data center environments.

Solution

  • Installed approximately 311 miles of Panduit copper and fiber optic cabling.
  • Implemented Panduit Category 6A Vari-MaTriX solution.
  • Deployed ISO 14025 and ISO 21930 compliant connectors.
  • Delivered more than 22,000 copper and fiber connections utilizing structured cabling architecture.
  • Installed cabinets with integrated sensors, secure doors, and heat dissipation; intelligent PDUs; and high-density connectivity solutions.

Outcome

  • Enabled reliable support for building automation systems and connected technologies.
  • Improved support for security, communication, and collaboration applications.
  • Created a scalable infrastructure capable of supporting future growth and new applications.
  • Contributed to sustainability objectives through efficient and standards-compliant infrastructure.
  • Provided a technology foundation for one of Italy's flagship smart building projects.

“Panduit’s highly scalable and flexible network infrastructure has enabled us to address building integration and automation needs, improving the operational efficiency of interconnected assets, and laying the foundation to support future applications. In addition, the synergy between the teams of Panduit and STIM Tech Group allowed us to always meet the deadlines and the quality of the end result.”

Challenges

As one of the landmark developments within Milan's Porta Nuova financial district, Torre Gioia 22 was designed as a highly sustainable smart building capable of supporting a modern workplace environment. The 30-story tower, including four underground levels, required a network infrastructure that could accommodate building automation systems, collaboration technologies, office environments, telecommunications rooms, a centralized data center, and a growing number of connected devices.

Because of the building's scale and complexity, Intesa Sanpaolo needed an infrastructure that would not only meet current requirements but also provide the flexibility and scalability necessary for future technology adoption and expansion.

The Panduit Strategy and Solution

Panduit partnered with Intesa Sanpaolo and system integrator/Panduit Gold Partner STIM Tech Group to design and deploy a structured cabling solution capable of supporting long-term growth. The project leveraged approximately 311 miles of copper and fiber optic cabling, providing comprehensive connectivity across office floors, common spaces, telecommunications rooms, and data center environments.

The solution incorporated Panduit Category 6A Vari-MaTriX cabling and connectivity that complies with ISO 14025 and ISO 21930 standards. These certified solutions supported the building's sustainability objectives while helping contribute to LEED certification goals. More than 22,000 copper and fiber connections were installed to provide flexibility for workspace design and future technology requirements.

Implementation

The deployment included structured cabling links and point-to-point connections throughout the facility. Intelligent cabinets featuring integrated monitoring capabilities, high connection density, and optimized airflow were implemented within key infrastructure areas. Intelligent PDUs and additional connectivity accessories were also deployed within the central data center and telecommunications rooms.

The collaborative effort between Panduit, STIM Tech Group, and Intesa Sanpaolo ensured the infrastructure was delivered according to project requirements while establishing a robust technology framework capable of supporting current and future operational needs.

The Outcome

The completed network infrastructure provides dependable support for building automation, security, communications, and collaboration services throughout Gioia 22. The solution enables operational efficiency while supporting the organization's sustainability initiatives and future technology roadmap.

By creating a flexible and scalable foundation, Intesa Sanpaolo is positioned to accommodate new applications, evolving workplace requirements and continued growth. The project serves as an example of how intelligent network infrastructure can support both smart building functionality and long-term business objectives.
